Explosions in the Sky offer few fireworks in new high-concept video
Sep 9th
If you can hold on until the three-and-a-half minute mark you get to hear the drummer. Other than that, you may find the audio portion of this epic music video from the oddly-coiffed Explosions in the Sky a bit lacking. In fact, it’s the definition of dull. The world really could use a good punk rock band right about now. Where’s that new Gallows record, anyway?
Go See Senna!
Aug 21st
If you’re not really a big fan of motor racing, or you’re into the hillbilly-style of faux racing known here in the U.S. as NASCAR, you’ll enjoy this film, anyway. If you are a big fan of open-wheel motor racing, you will really enjoy this film. “You are competing to win, and, if you no longer go for a gap you are no longer a racing driver” says the film’s subject, Ayrton Senna. Take that Little E!
Easily the best documentary I’ve seen this year. Now playing at the Landmark Theater on Pico in West Los Angeles. Go see it!
Queens of the Stone Age on Conan
Apr 17th
Queens of the Stone Age appeared on Conan O’Brien’s cleverly-named television show “Conan” last week whereupon they bludgeoned all in attendance with a stellar version of their classic tune “If Only.” The song appears on the band’s re-issue of their 1998 self-titled debut, Queens of the Stone Age.
KISS Live in Hollywood
Mar 27th
There are worse bands than KISS, but no worse wigs. Paul Stanley multi-tasks with the best of them as he plays guitar (allegedly), sings (allegedly) and works out on the stair-stepper (apparently), all at the same time. Enjoy their Hollywood, Florida performance of “Modern Day Delilah” from Sonic Boom.
Pole Dancing for Jesus?
Mar 27th
The lord works in mysterious ways! Pole dancing for Jesus might just be the sneaky way strip clubs invade religious institutions, and vice versa. Although it’s my guess the latter has already happened wherever strip clubs and hillbillies coexist. Should we be surprised this video is from Texas?
