Beastie Boys Say It
Apr 23rd
Beastie Boys have decided to preview another new tune from their upcoming full-length Hot Sauce Committee Part 2, due out two days before Cinco de Mayo. It’s encouraging to hear a bunch of guys in their 40′s using “knick knack paddywhack” in their lyrics. Or discouraging. I thought our generation might be contributing more by this stage in its development. Oh well. Maybe the next one will be better.
Queens of the Stone Age on Conan
Apr 17th
Queens of the Stone Age appeared on Conan O’Brien’s cleverly-named television show “Conan” last week whereupon they bludgeoned all in attendance with a stellar version of their classic tune “If Only.” The song appears on the band’s re-issue of their 1998 self-titled debut, Queens of the Stone Age.
Today’s Record Stores
Apr 14th
Today’s record stores suck. Back in the good old days there were thousands of ‘em and you could discover some great music (and a whole bunch of crappy stuff, too) by strolling the aisles and looking at physical objects. The ones in my ‘hood today may as well be cupcake shops: they’re really cute, only stock a few items, and sell merchandise everybody on the planet could do without. That having been said, please enjoy this weekend’s attempt to build awareness/sympathy for the country’s struggling brick-and-mortar recorded music retailers.
Parenthetical Girls The Pornographer
Apr 12th
Indie rocks sucks so heavily right now I’m almost ashamed to be Caucasian. That having been said, please enjoy the above video clip from Parenthetical Girls.
KISS Live in Hollywood
Mar 27th
There are worse bands than KISS, but no worse wigs. Paul Stanley multi-tasks with the best of them as he plays guitar (allegedly), sings (allegedly) and works out on the stair-stepper (apparently), all at the same time. Enjoy their Hollywood, Florida performance of “Modern Day Delilah” from Sonic Boom.
