Oxford’s Word of the Year: “Unfriend”

Thanks to Facebook, “unfriend” will soon be appearing in what has long been considered the ultimate reference work in American English lexicography. The New Oxford American Dictionary has chosen to legitimize the once grammatically-questionable word by naming it the 2009 Word of the Year. A verb, “unfriend” is defined as “to remove someone as a ‘friend’ on a social networking site such as Facebook.” 300 million Facebook users can’t be wrong!
The Beatles Go Digital!

The Beatles are releasing a limited edition apple-shaped USB drive containing pretty much their entire catalogue just in time for Christmas. The release marks the first time Beatles catalogue has been sold legitimately as digital, non-CD files. Vinyl versions of the reissues are expected to be announced shortly.

Apple Planning Subscription iTunes TV Service?

According to ChannelWeb, Apple is looking to do to the television business what it has done with the record industry – take it over!
Apple (NSDQ:AAPL) is pitching TV networks about a new service that delivers TV programs via its iTunes software and store across a wide range of hardware via a $30-per-month subscription service.
The networks are both intrigued by and wary of the new potential service, according to a Monday report in The Wall Street Journal’s All Things Digital blog.
Rather than tying such a service to its Apple TV box or a rumored table device, Apple would make the TV shows available for subscription via iTunes as early as next year, wrote Peter Kafka in the All Things Digital blog.

Foo Fighters to Play Live Gig on Facebook!

Foo Fighters will release a deluxe CD/DVD retrospective package, creatively-entlted Greatest Hits, on Tuesday, November 3rd. A word of caution to those of you in Southern California: don’t even think about trying to drive a car in Pasadena on Sunday. It will be a traffic nightmare.
